Paralegal
A long and well-established firm in Kent is seeking a paralegal to join their Court of Protection team. This position will be based close to Tunbridge Wells.
This firm are open to individuals without private client experience, but the successful candidate must have a genuine interest in this area of law and have good numeracy skills (due to client budgets and financial aspects of the role).
The successful paralegal will support the team by providing assistance with legal work and administrative matters.
There will be a great deal of client and family contact together with liaising with case managers, social workers and medical professionals.
The Court of Protection team deals with:
- Deputyships and private trust work
- Preparing all types of applications to the COP, assisting in the purchase of properties and adapting them for the needs of the client
- Controlling and monitoring clients' budgets
- Liaising with case managers, doctors, therapists, care teams, surveyors, architects, and other specialists, supervising tax affairs and accounts, liaising with IFAs, running trustee meetings, and preparing trustee resolutions
- Drafting personal injury trusts
The following skills are essential:
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Good organisational skills.
- Good numeracy skills
- Empathy and patience to assist with the files of vulnerable adults and those lacking capacity to deal with their own property and financial affairs.
You will be fully supported by the team and will receive full training.
They are ideally looking for an individual who is happy working at this level for the next few years, but progress is always available within the firm.
